Sun Sign Calculator

Check your tropical Sun sign from the Sun's calculated position. Birth time matters on transition dates, when a fixed calendar table may give the wrong answer.

Astronomical positions are calculated; astrology and numerology interpretations are symbolic, not scientifically validated assessments.

Birth details

Reference cities use centre coordinates. Edit them for your actual birthplace. Historical offsets follow your browser’s time-zone database; check your record when clocks changed.

Calculations stay in your browser. We do not put birth details in URLs, storage or analytics. Results are not sent to a server.

Enter your details and choose Calculate. Examples are illustrative, not saved profiles.

How this calculation works

The Sun's geocentric ecliptic longitude is divided into twelve 30-degree tropical signs, with Aries beginning at zero degrees.

Assumptions and limits

A date without a known time is evaluated at local noon and labelled as an illustration. It is not enough to resolve every cusp-day birth.

Questions about sun sign

Is this the same as a constellation?

No. Tropical signs are equal divisions measured from the equinox; astronomical constellations are unequal regions of the sky.

Why does the sign change at a different time each year?

A calendar date does not fix the precise equinox or longitude crossing. The ephemeris calculates the selected instant.
