Rising Sign Calculator

Find the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. Enter the recorded local time, its historical time zone and your birth coordinates.

Astronomical positions are calculated; astrology and numerology interpretations are symbolic, not scientifically validated assessments.

Birth details

Reference cities use centre coordinates. Edit them for your actual birthplace. Historical offsets follow your browser’s time-zone database; check your record when clocks changed.

Calculations stay in your browser. We do not put birth details in URLs, storage or analytics. Results are not sent to a server.

Enter your details and choose Calculate. Examples are illustrative, not saved profiles.

How this calculation works

Local sidereal time and the ecliptic's obliquity locate the eastern-horizon intersection. Historical civil-time rules convert the entered clock time to UTC first.

Assumptions and limits

An estimated birth time gives an estimated rising sign. This implementation limits house/rising coordinates to latitudes between 66 degrees south and north, and never supplies rising for an unknown time.

Questions about rising sign

Why are coordinates needed?

The local horizon changes with latitude and longitude. A nearby city centre is a reference location, not a precise hospital coordinate.

What if the clock time happened twice?

During a fall-back transition, choose the earlier or later occurrence only when your record supports it. Otherwise the instant is ambiguous.
