Mercury Retrograde Calculator

Check apparent Mercury retrograde motion at a selected instant and see the year's station intervals. Dates come from calculated geocentric longitude, not a repeating calendar pattern.

Astronomical positions are calculated; astrology and numerology interpretations are symbolic, not scientifically validated assessments.

Instant to check

Reference cities use centre coordinates. Edit them for your actual birthplace. Historical offsets follow your browser’s time-zone database; check your record when clocks changed.

Calculations stay in your browser. We do not put birth details in URLs, storage or analytics. Results are not sent to a server.

Enter your details and choose Calculate. Examples are illustrative, not saved profiles.

How this calculation works

A centred one-hour longitude difference estimates angular speed. Daily bracketing and numerical refinement find changes in its sign; negative speed denotes apparent retrograde motion.

Assumptions and limits

Station times are approximate and displayed in UTC. Retrograde is an apparent direction viewed from Earth, not Mercury reversing its orbit. It is not scientific evidence that communication or equipment will fail.

Questions about mercury retrograde

Why can a station appear on another local date?

UTC and local civil dates can differ. Your entered instant uses the selected IANA zone; the interval table explicitly uses UTC.

Is the shadow period included?

No. The table covers negative apparent longitude motion, not the wider symbolic pre- and post-shadow periods.
